✚ What is Cellulite?

  • Cellulite is a common, harmless skin condition that causes lumpy, dimpled flesh on the thighs, hips, buttocks and abdomen, mostly seen in women.

✚ How Does Cellulite Look?

  • Cellulite looks like dimpled or bumpy skin appearing as a cottage cheese or orange peel texture. Severe cellulite makes the skin appear rumpled and bumpy with areas of peaks and valleys, and is most commonly seen around the thighs and buttocks, but can also be found on the breasts, lower abdomen and upper arms.

  • Fibrous connective cords pull the skin to the underlying muscle, with the fat lying between. As fat cells accumulate they push the skin upward, while the fibrous cords pull down the skin, creating an uneven skin surface or dimpling. Also, hormonal and genetic factors play a large role in the development of cellulite.

  • Most women develop some cellulite after puberty, as women's fat is typically distributed in the thighs, hips and buttocks, making them common areas for cellulite. I can also develop with aging as the skin loses elasticity.
